George Guy Carlton L'Estrange CB Born in Ireland in 1775, went to school at Rugby, Guy entered the Army, to begin a career in the service on the 24th Nov 1798 at the age of 23 as a Lieutenant with the 6th Foot Regiment. He quickly rose through the ranks, Captain in 1802, Major in 1808 and Lieutenant Colonel in 1812 and transferred to the 31st Foot in 1815. Guy served gallantly in Spain and Portugal in the Peninsula war, he fought at the Battle of Albuhera for which he received the 'Companion of Bath (CB)' He was the Deputy Adjutant-General for the 31st Foot in Mauritius He retired to Yorkshire.
